500 new jail officers take oath today

A total of 500 recruits of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) have been declared new jail officers today in a simultaneous oath taking ceremony in regional units nationwide.

In the National headquarters, 100 new personnel took their oath this morning.

In other regions, a total of 350 new jail officers were administered oath to while a set of 50 are to arrive at the NHQ today for the ceremony.

The mass hiring is consistent with the bureau’s request from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for additional funds for the current fiscal year.

“The mass oath taking is a result of our continuous and intensified recruitment to effectively and efficiently run a total of 411 jails in different cities and municipalities nationwide,” said Senior Supt. Linda F. Mingoa, Director for Human Resource Development.

BJMP Chief, Jail Director Rosendo M. Dial said that they need to hire and train more officers to strengthen the bureau’s lacking manpower.

“The BJMP has been pushing for more rehabilitation programs for detainees while incarcerated in our facilities and we need professionals in implementing these programs,” said Dial.
