3.7M worth of firearms for QC jails

Supt Vela shows the donated firearms from QC government

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) lauded the support of Mayor Herbert Bautista in donating P3.77 million worth of firearms for jails in Quezon City.

According to QC Jail Warden Supt Joseph Vela,”The firearms will surely beef up the logistical requirements of the facility considering our inmate population is the second biggest in the country.”

Twenty 5.56 caliber Norinco rifle, 70 caliber .40 Taurus pistols and ammunitions were donated.

As part of the proactive measures prior to distribution of donated firearms, Supt Vela will be coordinating a Seminar Training on Responsible Gun Ownership and Firearms Safety among personnel to ensure the proper handling of said firearms.

Meanwhile, Jail Director Rosendo M. Dial vowed that said firearms will be utilized properly particularly during escorting procedures.

“We are really grateful to the Quezon City Government for extending assistance in providing firepower in our jails,” he said.

Currently, the Quezon City Jail houses 3,015 inmates who are awaiting trial and convicted with penalty of three years and below.
